Kappie

Exploring the conservative background of her upbringing, Sheila-Madge reimagined what it means to be a descendant of the Voortrekkers, a group of wayward vagabonds that left the Cape colony in the 1800s to claim their piece of land in the interior of Southern Africa.

Now, more than 200 years later, their legacy takes a new form through Kappie, a collection of designs revelling in the soft colour scheme of the Highveld, recalling the pinks of spring bloom, creams and browns of the grasslands and muted greens of faraway clusters of trees. The urban explorer takes to the unknown city in cotton, twill and wool, exploring possibilities in post-modern comfort.
